  • USMS 3000 yard National Postal Championships
    On September 9, Mimi Hughes and Terry Palmer, two HSA masters swimmers, competed in the USMS 3000 yard National Postal Championships. Hughes, best know for her swims of the Tennessee River swam in the 45 to 49 year old age group, and Palmer competed in the 55 to 59 year old age group.

    The National Postal championships are a forum for long distance swimming in masters competition. Competitors must swim the specified distance at some time of their choosing during a two month period. Usually competitors take turns timing for each other because the swims are so long. Results of the competition are mailed to a central receiving point, hence the name "Postal".

  • Middle Distance Pentahlon in Peachtree City, Ga.
    HSA Masters swimmer, Terry Palmer, won his age group in the Middle Distance Pentathalon on September 21 in Peachtree City, Georgia. Competing in the 55 to 59 age group, Palmer won all five events in the Middle Distance Pentathalon including the: 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard backstroke, 100 yard breaststroke, 100 yard freestyle and 200 yard Individual Medley.

    Sponsored by the SouthSide Seals, a Masters Swim Team in Peachtree City, Pentathalon swimmers compete for the lowest total time in five specified events. The total time is the sum of the times in each of the five events.
  • 2002 Carter's Lake 5K Open Water Swim
    On Sunday, July 28, 2002, HSA Masters Angie Kloote, Bob Kloote and Eric Edwards participated in the SE LMSC Open Water Championships held at Carter's Lake, GA. This 5 km event is one of three open water swims conducted by the Dynamo Masters Swim Team as part of the Georgia Open Water Series. Overall there were 61 swimmers who finished the event. Angie Kloote finished 6th out of 7 in the 35-39 age group, and 53rd overall in, a time of 1:27:58.7. Bob Kloote finished 4th out of 7 in the 45-49 age group, and 25th overall, in a time of 1:08:25.2. Eric Edwards finished 6th of 7 in the 35-39 age group, and 27th overall, in a time of 1:09:25.1.
  • 20th Annual Mach Tenn Triathlon
    On Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Arnold Air Force Base Tullahoma, Tennessee several HSA Masters participated in the Mach Tenn Triathlon. Of special interest are HSA Masters Dave Swinford (1:32:22), Jonathan Krichev (second overall male in 1:18:16), Alicia Krichev (first in 25-29 in 1:36:51), April Robertson (first in 30-34 in 1:43:18),Matt Brass (1:30:11), Meyer Dworsky (second in 50 - 54 in 1:37:50), Meghan Welden (second in 20-24 in 1:38:23, Mimi Hughes (second in 45-49 in 1:47:47).

  • In The Spotlight

    Congratulations to Terry Palmer, an HSA Master Swimmer, who competed in the 2001 USMS Short Course National Championships in Santa Clara, California, May 17-20, 2001. Terry, who practices in our HSA Master Program under the coaching of Fran Norris, competed in the 55 to 59 age category and swam for a 7th place in the 200 yard breaststroke, 8th place in the 100 yard breaststroke, 9th place in the 100 yard butterfly, and 10th place in the 50 yard breaststroke.
